Two years have passed but the construction of the Kosovo-Serbia railway has not started yet.

The reasons are not known until the experts on economic and political issues blame the government for this.

The companies threw them away but everything seems to have remained only on paper, this is the agreement signed in the White House in September 2021 between Kosovo and Serbia.

Among the points agreed upon by the two sides in that period was the construction of two railway lines connecting the two countries.

The aim was for these projects to enable the realization of the trade turnover of the two countries also through railway lines.

Regarding the blocking of this project, RTV Dukagjini has requested an answer from the Ministry of Infrastructure, but they have not responded.

Despite the silence of the Ministry, an answer to their work was given by the company INFRAKOS.

The design for the Podujevë-Merdarë railway has been made but further, it is not known what happened.

This is confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of "Infrakos", Zymer Zekaj.

"This Podujev railway line on the border with Serbia, this line belongs to INFRAKO, we have done our part, but it's up to the Government to push this project forward.

But for all the information should be requested in the Minister of Infrastructure as in the scheme no information about this ", said Zekaj.

The non-implementation of this project seems to have several reasons.

Shqipërim Pula, an expert on legal and political issues in the country, says that the change of government in Kosovo and the change of administration in the US may be some of the reasons that this project has not progressed further.

"In the US, the President has changed. In Kosovo, we had a change of Government and we know that then the current Prime Minister was against the agreement in the White House and seems to have found the will of the political polo to implement the September agreements.

Washington's commitments also provide for the possibility of financing this project.

"This project could enable the free movement of goods and could serve within the framework of an agreement, and this made it difficult to implement those 2020 agreements", said Pula.

Economist Safet Gërxhaliu is also critical of the non-implementation of this agreement.

He says that Kosovo is dominated by the political agenda and that the youngest state in Europe, according to him, does not have the comfort to reject such an agreement.

"Such an agreement has economic benefits, at the same time in Kosovo a policy of rejecting or minimizing the importance of this agreement was regenerated and in Kosovo the political agenda is dominating and the Kosovar economy is being damaged.

The railway has no alternative and is of great importance.

"Kosovo did not have the comfort it refused and this agreement should be implemented as soon as possible", said Gërxhaliu.

The agreement signed on September 4th in the presence of former President Donald Trump provided that the parties would respect the agreement on the Belgrade-Pristina railway.

Furthermore, it stated that both sides should commit to a feasibility study on the possibilities of connecting the Belgrade-Pristina railway infrastructure with a deep-sea port on the Adriatic.
