If the military campaign in Ukraine is successful, Russian President Vladimir Putin will choose Georgia as his next target.

Former US Secretary of Defense and ex-CIA Director Leon Panetta said this in an interview with the Voice of America.

"Therefore, it is absolutely important that the US tries to work with Georgia to ensure its security," he believes.

Leon Panetta added that, in addition to Georgia, Putin may launch aggression against NATO countries bordering Russia.

He emphasized that Putin's main goal is to undermine democracy in the United States, as well as to undermine democracy in other countries.

"Obviously, in order to protect our national security, we have to make sure that Putin does not succeed in carrying out his intentions," Panetta said.

It will be recalled that Estonian intelligence believes that a Russian attack on NATO countries in the short term is "unlikely", however, it is possible within the next decade.
