North Korea fired a ballistic missile of an unspecified type into the sea off its east coast on Sunday, the South Korean military command said, as quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

Another missile launch from North Korea comes amid the arrival of a US aircraft carrier for joint exercises with South Korean forces, and days before a planned visit by US Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to the South Korean command, the missile traveled 600 km above land at a maximum height of 60 km before falling into the waters off the east coast of North Korea.

According to information from the Associated Press, the ballistic missile launched on Sunday was of short range.

North Korea has increased its missile tests on record to more than 30 launches in 2022, including its first intercontinental ballistic missile since 2017.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Tokyo was doing its best to gather data on the North Korean missile launch and confirm the safety of ships and aircraft in the area.

So far, there are no reports of damage.

According to South Korean officials, there are signs that North Korea is also preparing to test a missile designed to be launched from a submarine.
