"Glory to Ukraine" was written on the pedestal after the demolition.

The bust was demolished with the help of special equipment.

This is not the first demolition of the Kharkiv bust.

On June 2, 2019, protesters against the congress of the party of

Gennady Kernes

and

Gennady Trukhanov

"Trust in business" demolished the bust and instead installed the flag of Ukraine on the pedestal.

The bust itself was smashed with hammers and axes, and the inscription "Executioner" was made on Zhukov's back.

Police tried to disperse the protesters, and the mayor promised to restore the monument.

In May 2016, the Marshal Zhukov metro station in Kharkiv was renamed the Palace of Sports, and Zhukov Avenue was renamed General Grigorenko Avenue.

In early May 2019, petitions were posted on the city hall's website demanding the return of Zhukov Avenue and Station.

On June 19, the city council voted to rename Grigorenko Avenue to Zhukov Avenue.

The session was picketed, historians of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance demanded that the mayor not do so, but Kernes signed the decision.

Police have opened a case against the city council.

Kernes then died, and the debate over demolition since Ukraine's independence has intensified since Russia's 2014 attack.

Georgy Zhukov

is a Soviet commander of the Second World War.

Marshal Zhukov's personality in historical and journalistic literature has opposite assessments, critics believe that he did not value the lives of soldiers.

“Zhukov's operative art is an advantage in strength of 5-6 times, otherwise it will not be taken care of;

he does not know how to fight with numbers, and builds a career on the blood, "- said Zhukov, another Soviet commander, Marshal

Andrei Yaromenko
