The Swedish security service announced today that it has detained four Islamists who were preparing attacks in the capital Stockholm area, reported France Presse.
The arrests were made during an operation carried out in cooperation with the police.
Searches were carried out in several places, the statement said.
"The detainees are suspected of preparing terrorist acts and serious crimes with the use of weapons," the Swedish security service noted.
"The case is related to violent Islamist extremism" as well as organized crime, she added.

Sweden's public prosecutor's office confirmed the arrests, saying the investigation was being led by a prosecutor from its security department, but gave no further details.
The Expressen newspaper reported that local residents heard several loud explosions as police stormed buildings in the southern Stockholm suburb of Turesjo.
According to the Swedish daily, law enforcement most likely used stun grenades to enter the office of an Islamic organization based in the area.
The Swedish Security Service has been working on the case for a long time, notes TASS, quoted by BTA.
