The sooner Bulgaria and Romania join Schengen and by land - something they already deserve, the more opportunities we will have to deal with migration challenges.

This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Maria Gabriel, on the second day of the EPP congress in Bucharest.

She emphasized that our country has a key role in protecting the external borders of the EU.

She added that close coordination with our NATO allies is needed more than ever and emphasized that Bulgaria supports Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia on their way to the EU.

At the end, Maria Gabriel called for the creation of a fund for European culture and support for cultural industries.
