At the end of February, some 330 electric meters
had been installed in Morón alone
, as part of a program that in the country has reached nearly
34,000 clients in the residential and state sectors
, in the last three months, and that foresees a top plan for 2024.
Leandro León Frías, director of Electrical Management in that municipality, told Canal Caribe that the new equipment has allowed the province to recover
172 kilowatts/hour per customer and an average saving of 50 megawatts per month.
Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spíritus, Camagüey and Pinar del Río stand out at the country level in the assembly of meters
.
It is expected that another 80,000 can be installed this year.
In addition to its newest technology,
the equipment is fraud-proof
, according to Daniel Pérez García, general director of the Ciego Electrical Company.
As it is not affected by the placement of the magnets, the system is strengthened against illegalities.
The impact of this equipment was compared by the manager as if it were “a new thermoelectric plant.”
“So, the concept of recovering the deterioration that the measurement had in the country is a sign of permanent savings,”
said Pérez García.
To better illustrate this, he explained that the same homes that
consumed an average of 172 kWh in August,
at the end of December averaged consumption below 100 kWh.
“Although at first they maintained the consumption rate they had when they were charged by estimate, later they began to regulate themselves.
“That is the intention of the management of the Electrical Union,” he noted.
At the end of 2023,
more than 7,000,000 pesos were collected in the billing of the residential sector of Ciego de Ávila,
as a result of the detection of a figure close to
800 frauds in the use of energy, which is equivalent to more than 1,800 megawatts/hour (MW/h)
.
Among the modus operandi of the offenders, the specialists of the Electric Company have identified the use of powerful magnets that prevent the measurement in the meter of all the energy that is used, as well as the connection, directly by connections, of one or several high-consuming devices to circumvent that record.
With the new counters, at least the magnets will be out of the equation.
