A volcano in Iceland erupted for the fourth time since December, spewing bright orange lava into the air.

For weeks, local authorities have been warning of an impending eruption on the Reykjavik peninsula, near the Icelandic capital.

Hand-built dikes have managed to divert the lava away from infrastructure, including the Svartsengi geothermal power plant and the fishing town of Grindavik, population around 4,000.

The eruption is the 7th for the Reykjanes Peninsula since 2021, when geological formations there that had not manifested themselves for 800 years became active.

Two main cones supply lava to a slow flow, as some other smaller vents have some fountaining.
