In the African country of Kenya, at the age of 99, Priscilla Sitieni, who is considered the oldest primary school student in the world, has died.

Her grandson told the BBC about this on Friday, November 18.

Priscilla Sitieni started having health problems after classes on Wednesday, November 15.

The long-lived woman, together with her young classmates, were preparing for the final exams, which were to begin next week.

Last year, the woman explained to representatives of the UN cultural and educational agency UNESCO that she sat down at the desk with her children to motivate young mothers to return to school.

"I wanted to show an example not only to them, but to other girls around the world who are not in school, that without education there will be no difference between you and a chicken," she said.

Ms Sitieni's story inspired a film called Gogo, which gave her the opportunity to visit France and meet First Lady Brigitte Macron.

The film's co-writer Patrick Pessis paid tribute to her, writing on Twitter: "Her message of girls' education still lives on."

The current Guinness World Records record for the oldest primary school student is held by another Kenyan, the late Kimani Maruge.

In 2004, he went to school at the age of 84 and died five years later.

The BBC contacted the registrars to see if they would be updating their records.

It will be recalled that an Iranian man, who was previously called the dirtiest person in the world, died at the age of 94 a few months after fellow villagers bathed him in the bathroom for the first time in many years.
