A massive fire broke out in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka.

A massive fire broke out in a seven-storey building (Bangladesh Fire) in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka late Thursday night, in which about 43 people died and dozens were injured, this information has been given by health officials.

"So far 43 people have died due to the fire," Bangladesh Health Minister Samant Lal Sen told the news agency after visiting Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the nearby Burns Hospital.

He said that about 40 injured people are being treated in the main burn hospital of the city.

The fire that broke out in the biryani restaurant spread to the entire building.

Fire department official Mohammad Shihab said the fire broke out at 9:50 pm (1550 GMT) on Thursday at a famous biryani restaurant on Bailey Road in Dhaka.

Within no time the fire quickly spread to the upper floors, trapping many people there.

He said that the firemen brought the fire under control after two hours of hard work.

A statement from the fire department said that they have taken 75 people out of the restaurant alive. 

 The building on Bailey Road in Dhaka mainly houses many clothing and mobile phone shops along with restaurants.

Sohail, a restaurant manager, said, "When we first saw smoke coming from the stairs, we were on the sixth floor. A lot of people started running upstairs. We used water pipes to get down from the building. Up Some of us got injured because of jumping from it."

Let us tell you that due to the massive fire, other people got trapped on the roof of the building and were pleading for help from the people. Environment Science Professor Kamruzzaman Majumdar wrote in a Facebook post, "Alhamdulillah, we along with our wife and children. We are sending all the women and children down. All of us men are on the roof. We have fire department service. There are still 50 people left to come down."

Let us tell you that later Kamruzzaman Majumdar was also taken out safely. 

52 people died due to fire in the year 2021

Let us tell you that due to laxity of safety rules, fires in apartment buildings and factory complexes are common in Bangladesh.

In July 2021, around 52 people, including many children, died in a fire at a food processing factory. In February 2019, 70 people lost their lives in a fire that broke out in several apartment blocks in Dhaka.
