A group protesting the disappearance of 43 students in Mexico in 2014 broke down the door of the presidential palace in the capital, according to videos broadcast by local television stations, BTA reported, citing Reuters.

The protesters broke down the door using a white pickup truck from Mexico's state-owned electricity company, video footage shows.

At the same time, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was giving his daily press conference in the same building.

Police used tear gas to disperse the group, Universal newspaper reported, which said law enforcement had erected barricades at the palace to prevent protesters from entering the building.

It was not clear if there were still any protesters inside the palace, but local media reported that some of the participants had been arrested.

Asked about the incident by a journalist during the press conference, Lopez Obrador said he would not use force against the protest and that the government would continue to investigate the case of the missing students.
