The general hospital for active treatment "St. Ivan Rilski" in Razgrad has announced a competition to fill vacancies for medical interns. The positions for which the place is not financed by the state are 15, said the executive director of the medical facility, Dr. Stanimir Georgiev, in an interview with BTA.
He explained that according to the orders approved by the Minister of Health, Razgrad Hospital can provide postgraduate training for persons with the professional qualification "doctor" in the specialties "Obstetrics and Gynecology", "Anesthesiology and Intensive Care", "Internal Diseases", "Gastroenterology", "Cardiology", "Clinical laboratory", "Nervous diseases", "Imaging diagnostics", "Orthopedics and traumatology", "Pediatrics", "Pneumology and phthisiology", "Psychiatry", "Rheumatology", "Ear, nose and throat diseases ” and “Surgery”.
On the basis of the Ordinance on the acquisition of a specialty in the health care system, MBAL in Razgrad announces on its website year-round the vacant positions for specialists.
The occupation of these positions is carried out after holding a competition in accordance with the procedure specified in the Labor Code, Dr. Georgiev pointed out.
According to him, according to the contract concluded in December 2023, the theoretical training of the specialists takes place at the Medical University "Prof.
Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" in Varna.
The practical training takes place in the hospital in Razgrad on a full-time basis.
"If a module cannot be conducted in the hospital, a contract is made with another hospital where this module of practical training can be completed.
In these cases, the intern has the right to a paid official leave," said the director of the Razgrad hospital.
He added that according to the Ordinance related to the determination of the positions of specialists financed by the state, MBAL - Razgrad announces twice a year on its website the vacancies for specialists financed by the state.
In total, the specialties are again 15, correspondingly, the announced vacancies at the moment are the same.
By April 20 and by August 20, the information is submitted to the Regional Health Inspectorate in Razgrad for the places for which there is a declared interest.
The information is submitted to the Ministry of Health and thus the number of state-funded specialist places is determined.
Places funded by the state etc.
"government procurement" are not interchangeable and do not mean the same thing.
Acute shortage of GPs and paediatricians
The state finances the fee for the theoretical training and the fee for training in modules and sections that cannot be held in the main training base, noted the director of MBAL - Razgrad.
According to him, the majority of specialists prefer to finance their post-graduate studies themselves, because they do not wish to enter into contracts with state hospitals for a longer period of time.
For their own account, the contracts are lighter and give them more flexibility, said Dr. Georgiev.
In the period from 2019 until now, the medical facility in Razgrad has been the base of more than 25 specialists, and for these five years the number is by no means small, said the director of the Razgrad hospital.
He pointed out that by the beginning of 2024, young doctors, specialists at the hospital, had already acquired the rights of specialists in the specialties "Gastroenterology", "Nervous diseases", "Pediatrics", "Orthopedics and traumatology", "Image diagnostics" and " Ear-nose-throat diseases'.
From the end of 2023, MBAL – Razgrad is also a training base for a nurse specializing in operating and dressing techniques.
Dr. Georgiev himself is one of the young doctors who in 2019 acquired the specialty "Orthopaedics and traumatology" at the Razgrad hospital and chose to develop after that at the local medical facility.
He explained that MBAL - Razgrad, as an employer, finances the training of its specialists by paying their fees, allowing the use of paid official leave, as well as paid leave for preparing and taking a state exam.
According to a contract concluded after acquiring the specialty, the trainee undertakes to work in the medical facility for a certain period.
"This is one of the mechanisms by which young medical specialists stay and continue their careers in the medical establishment.
We make efforts to ensure a good working environment and decent remuneration for work, thereby striving to retain young specialist doctors even after the term of their commitment", noted Dr. Stanimir Georgiev.
He added that the young doctors who chose to specialize in the Medical Center - Razgrad are mostly from the region, with nearly 80 percent of them remaining to work at the medical facility.
"Here they have the opportunity to develop professionally. The wages satisfy them, although there is still much to be desired in this area," added the medic.
In addition to replenishing the team with doctors where necessary, a priority in the work of the executive director of the Multispecialty Hospital for Active Treatment "St.
Ivan Rilski" in Razgrad is to work on equipping the medical facility with modern medical equipment.
He pointed out that at the end of last year, with the financial support of the Ministry of Health, a multifunctional computer tomograph, better known to patients as a scanner, was purchased for the needs of the imaging department at the hospital.
The surgery department has been renovated with new laparoscopic equipment for minimally invasive surgery.
The hospital also received new and modern equipment under the project "Strengthening the capacity of the hospital network for crisis responses" between the Ministry of Health in partnership with the medical facility, financed under the Operational Program "Regions in Growth 2014-2020".
With the project grant, a system for nasal high-flow oxygen therapy was delivered for the needs of the department of pulmonology and phthisiology.
The medical device serves to provide oxygen therapy to patients with respiratory distress and hypoxia and is much more effective than standard oxygen therapy.
A new stationary ultrasound machine for high-end ultrasounds was also purchased, equipped with three transducers - abdominal, cardiac and for surface structures - thyroid gland.
The device is based in the Department of Internal Medicine.
The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the hospital welcomes patients with a renewed base.
It is equipped with the necessary equipment and instruments, according to the requirements of the medical standard for physical and rehabilitation medicine, the director of the medical facility in Razgrad also said.
He added that steps have been taken for new equipment in the imaging department.
"We hope that according to the programs, our desire for the hospital in Razgrad to have nuclear magnetic resonance will be satisfied," added Dr. Georgiev.
