In the capital, more than 40 streets, alleys and squares, whose names are related to Russia and the Soviet past, were renamed. 

This was announced by the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko.

So which streets were renamed in Kyiv this time:

  • Slavgorodska street - the street named after the fallen Hero of the Russian-Ukrainian war Denys Antipov;

  • Karl Marx Street - Johann Wolfgang Goethe Street;

  • Amurska Square - Vasylkivska Square;

  • Pushkinska Street - Yevgena Chikalenko Street;

  • Nekrasivska Street - Ivan Drach Street;

  • Krasnodarska street - Golda Meir street;

  • Astrakhanska Street - Kastusya Kalinovskyi Street;

  • Bagration Street - the street named after Maksym Levin, a photojournalist who died in March 2022 near Kyiv;

  • Moskovskii Lane - Pavla Li Lane;

  • Oleksandr Bestuzhev Lane - Kuzma Skryabin Lane;

  • Heroes' Square of Brest - Chornobayivska Square;

  • Marshal Tymoshenko Street - Levka Lukyanenko Street;

  • Oleksandr Matrosov Street - the street of General Kulchytsky, a Ukrainian soldier who died in 2014 in Sloviansk.

"New names for the streets, alleys, boulevards, avenues and squares of the capital were chosen by the people of Kyiv. 296 objects selected by an expert commission were submitted for rating electronic voting. The people of Kyiv had the opportunity to vote for the names they preferred in the "Kyiv Digital" application. The names that received the most support were sent to the session hall of the Kyiv City Council for voting," Klitschko added.
