The leader of the Christian Democratic Union, which is the largest opposition party

in Germany

, Friedrich Merz said that the threat of Ukraine's defeat in the war by Russian aggressors is growing.

He said this in an interview with

Welt am Sonntag

.

He said he was watching events in Ukraine with "increasing concern" because of the growing possibility of Ukraine losing the war.

Mertz noted that Russia could not achieve its goals by military means.

"But Russia has reoriented its entire economy to military lines and produces weapons and ammunition in volumes that far exceed its current needs. This means that Russia is massively rearming, much more than is used in the war against Ukraine," he added.

The politician emphasized that Germany should supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

"Taurus cruise missiles are not a miracle weapon. But with their help, Ukraine could deliver a strong blow to the supply lines of the Russian army," the leader of the German opposition believes, which, according to him, is very important for Ukraine's successful self-defense.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that German Chancellor Olaf

Scholz explained that he is not handing over the Taurus to Ukraine because he is afraid of Russia's war with NATO

.

In addition, we previously informed that

the former Chancellor of Germany offers to use his friendship with Putin
