Tomorrow, March 6, in the Orthodox calendar,

is the day of memory of St. Constantine and 42 martyrs from Ammorea

.

The story of the 42 martyrs begins with the war between the Greek emperor Theophilus and the Saracens.

The Saracens besieged the Byzantine city of Ammorea and captured its defenders - 42 soldiers.

Among them was Saint Constantine, who renounced his priestly rank to become a warrior and protect the city from the Saracens.

All these martyrs were tortured, but they remained faithful to Christianity.

Saint Constantine lived in the 9th century.

With him were other defenders, such as Letius, Theophilus, Theodore, Melissene, Callistus, Vasoi and others.

They renounced Islam and were sentenced to death.
