Dragon 2024 national military maneuvers are taking place in Poland as part of NATO exercises, during which units of the armies of eight countries force the Vistula River through three crossings - Polish, French and British-German.

As reported by polskieradio24.pl, on March 5, the presidents of Poland and Lithuania, Andrzej Duda and Gitanas Nauseda, will observe the exercises in Kazhenevo.

Units from Poland, Lithuania, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, Germany and France are participating in the Dragon 2024 exercise.

Special ferries will be used to cross the river, and aviation will provide protection for the weapons being transported.

The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Poland,

Cezary Wisniewski

, said that March was specifically chosen for such exercises in order to complicate the conditions as much as possible.

According to him, the idea of the exercises is to transfer troops very quickly in case of conflict, crisis phase.

"We wanted to create certain difficulties for our sappers and engineer troops, because it is much easier to cross in the middle of summer, but the point is not that it is easy, but to train well in the most difficult conditions," said Cesary Wisniewski.

According to him, another difficult condition is working out the interaction with the allied forces.

"We have more than 20,000 military personnel here, 5,000 of them are allies - this always requires additional coordination, longer and more precise planning," added Cesary Wisniewski.

From January 31 to May 31, NATO is conducting the largest military exercises since the Cold War on the territory of the member countries of the organization.

They will pass along the borders with Russia and Belarus.

About 90,000 military personnel from all countries of the North Atlantic Alliance are taking part in the Steadfast Defender 2024 military exercise, during which NATO's defense plans are being improved to strengthen European security against a potential adversary.

Belarus demanded from Poland accurate information about the exercises

On February 15, the head of the Department of International Military Cooperation of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus,

Valery Ravenka

, stated that Poland did not provide Belarus with annual information on the military forces, as well as information on the Dragon 2024 exercises.

According to him, these exercises are among those events, information about which must be passed on to neighboring states, and their representatives should be invited for observation.

According to Ravenka, about 20,000 military personnel from 10 countries of the bloc are participating in the exercises (presumably, NATO is being discussed. — RS).

Valery Ravenka said that on February 14, at the meeting of the OSCE Forum on Security Cooperation, the Belarusian side called on Poland to "return to the implementation of international agreements and not to follow the path of final destruction of the architecture of international security."

"A constructive reaction from Poland was not expected," noted the representative of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus.

Last year in October, Belarus, following Russia, terminated the agreement on conventional armed forces in Europe in relation to Poland and the Czech Republic.

In practical terms, this means that Belarus no longer transfers information related to conventional weapons and equipment to Poland and the Czech Republic, and does not accept inspections from Poland and the Czech Republic.

In relation to other states, Belarus must fulfill its obligations stipulated by this agreement.

After the collapse of the USSR, 21 European and 8 post-Soviet countries became participants in the Convention on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.

Russia withdrew from this agreement completely in May 2023.
