Today marks 23 years since the massacre in the village of Izbica in Skenderaj.

On March 28, 1999, Serbian police and military forces, after besieging thousands of civilians in the village of Izbica and surrounding settlements, separated 147 young and old men, who killed and massacred them, while the rest were deported from Kosovo.

Even today, on the same date, after 23 years between tears and pain, the victims of Izbica are remembered.

Hylë Shala, whose husband and son were killed, reminds the Telegraph of the time of the war and the experiences of that time.

"I have a son dead here.

I am feeling sad because they died in their youth, while we are still alive.

We are now living and raising orphans.

We stayed in Albania for about 6 weeks, lost and lost, we stayed there, small children crying and shouting.

"They caught our eye, they stabbed us in the throat, beating and oppressing us," she said.

Mother Hylë, through tears, recounts the moment when the Serbian paramilitaries killed her husband.

"I always remember that time, what they did to us and what we experienced.

We had knives around our necks, we waited for the moment when they were killing us until the men took us all.

"I saw the man when he was strangled and I saw him when they put a knife to his throat", she confessed.

Meanwhile, Serb Dajaku Zebeli said that he feels the same pain as 23 years ago when he remembers the fact that no one was tried or convicted for the Izbica massacre.

"We have the same pain as 23 years ago as today.

My father, uncle, uncle's son and uncle's wife were killed here.

But we have even greater sorrow that our brothers take and try them, innocent they also send them to trial in The Hague.

No one was tried or convicted for these massacres.

Why? ”Declared the Serb, the daughter of the martyr Osman Dajaku.

Fatë Qelaj, the mother of Dafina Qelaj, a 6-month-old baby, who was killed by Serbian forces, remembers the moment when the latter hit the girl and strangled her.

"Dafina Qelaj is buried here, my 6-month-old daughter.

On March 28, we were gathered and there were many people, the Serbian forces came and separated them, the women on one side and the children on the other, and my father-in-law had the girl in his arms.

Serbs hit the girl dragging her father-in-law and the girl died.

They buried them and took them out of the cemetery again.

After 17 years I found it for the second time.

"I came here to the dry grave for 17 years and I stayed", said Qelaj.
