Prince William

will attend the 77th BAFTAs without his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, as she continues to recover from abdominal surgery last month.

"The Prince, President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), will watch the awards ceremony before meeting category winners and EE Rising Star nominees," the palace said.

Prince William has been president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010 and regularly attends the annual awards ceremonies. Last year, he was always accompanied at the event by Princess Kate. In her absence today, we thought we'd reminisce about some of Catherine's red carpet looks at BAFTAs from years past.

Last year, Kate shone in a white Alexander McQueen one-shoulder dress, which she accessorized with long black gloves and Zara earrings. This year, singer Taylor Swift came to the Grammy ceremony in a similar look.

In 2018, Kate was seven months pregnant with her third child, Prince Louis, and appeared at the ceremony in a dress by her favorite brand, Jenny Packham, with a skirt, a plunging neckline and a thin band that accentuated her stomach. Catherine also wore a luxurious set with emeralds and diamonds and took with her a small black clutch.

In 2019, Catherine wore a white Alexander McQueen one-shoulder dress, Jimmy Choo rhinestone pumps and an Alexander McQueen clutch. The evening look was complemented by a diamond bracelet of Queen Elizabeth II and earrings from the personal casket of Princess Diana.

It's a pity that the prince will appear alone on the track this year. Kate, it will be recalled, is currently at their Anmer Hall estate in Norfolk, as the couple's three children are on school holidays.
