MPs take the oath of allegiance in a rare sitting of the British parliament on Saturday.

Following the induction ceremony this morning, the Speaker and elected MPs took the oath of allegiance to the new King, Charles III.

This is a rare session on Saturday where MPs will express their condolences following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The hearing is scheduled to last until around 10:00 p.m.

He will end with a "modest formal speech" to the King, "expressing the deep sorrow of Parliament" after his mother's death.

Every MP will have the opportunity to swear an oath to the King when they return home after the holidays, but they are not obliged to.

Speaker of Parliament Sir Lindsay Hoyle will set the new swearing-in timetable, but it is expected to be significantly reduced until after the Queen's state funeral.

This means new laws cannot be passed until Parliament is back, although it can convene on urgent matters.

Otherwise, Liz Truss, the British Prime Minister has chosen to swear that she will serve the new King, Charles III, with devotion.

It is worth noting that within ten days, Truss was sworn in twice – first to Queen Elizabeth II and now to the new King.
