Monterey Car Week has long been known for offering the opportunity to see some of the world's most historic and exclusive cars.

But the car-themed events in Southern California serve another reason: to be a car show for billionaires.

A place where they can see new and unattainable models before others, and even buy them.

Car and Driver reports that one of this year's debutants is Hennessey's Venom F5 Roadster, which was recently unveiled at The Quail Motorsport Gathering.

As the name suggests, this is a "cut" model of the existing F5, which the Texas automaker says will be the fastest and most powerful open-top car in the world, Telegraph reports.

Only 30 models will be built, and each one will be sold at a price of 2.9 million euros.

By the ridiculous standards of Pebble Beach car launches, the price is actually not that exorbitant.

The road car is based on the F5 Venom coupe and shares a similar mechanical package.

That's a powerful 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that's claimed to produce 1,817 horsepower and rear-wheel drive through a single-clutch automatic transmission.

Hennesy revealed that the car will weigh in at 1,405 kilograms, weighing just 20 kilograms more than the coupe model, and that it is designed to deliver a top speed of more than 480kMh, although top speed will be limited when the roof panel will be removed.
