Polestar, one of the first vehicle manufacturers to adopt Google's Android Automotive operating system for electric vehicles, is now extending the experience to all iOS users.

The company announced that its Polestar 2 electric sedan now supports Apple CarPlay, thanks to a recent software update, reports

People who own a Polestar 2 and an iPhone will now be able to mirror their phone screen to the 11-inch touch screen of the portrait-oriented vehicle.

In addition to accessing some of their apps, CarPlay users will also be able to use Siri to change music or find Apple Maps locations.

The introduction of CarPlay support is interesting because Polestar made a name for itself by establishing a direct link with Apple's main rival, Google.

Aside from the brilliance of the reputation for superb minimalist design and powerful electrical performance, the carmaker's decision to use Google's Android operating system was seen as a possible game changer in the world of automotive software.

The most fun part about driving a Polestar is driving it, but there's more to it.

Car companies have built info-entertainment systems on Android in the past, but basically they had to create the open source operating system and build their solution on top.

One big benefit of this integrated approach is that customers gain instant access to Android Auto-approved apps like Google Maps, Play Music or Google Assistant without having to use their smartphones.

Another is that it has access to car functions, which means it can control climate settings or send you maintenance alerts.

This original version of Android is also upgradable, meaning that Polestar and Google can push software updates over the air to improve car functions long after it's sold.

But for those who prefer to live their digital lives exclusively within the Apple software ecosystem, Polestar is ready to accommodate you.

Moreover, the company has said it will support the broader version of Apple's next-generation CarPlay, which will be displayed on every screen available.

Much of the automotive industry is taking a wait-and-see approach to Apple's more powerful vision for the future of CarPlay.

But not Polestar.
