The sports authorities in Italy decided to stop Paul Pogba, 4 years old, from playing football, after he was found to be using stimulants a few months ago.

What did Pogba say?

Pogba issued an official statement:

  • Today I was informed of the decision of the National Anti-Doping Court and I believe that the ruling is incorrect.

  • I am saddened, shocked and deeply saddened that everything I have built in my professional career has been taken away from me.

  • When I'm free from the legal restrictions, the whole story will become clear, but I have never intentionally or knowingly taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations.

  • As a professional athlete, I would never do anything to improve my performance using banned substances and I would never disrespect or deceive my fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I played for or against.

  • As a result of the decision announced today, I will appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

What happened?

The French star was found to be using the stimulant "testosterone" during a doping test after Juventus' first match in the Italian League this season, in August 2023.

Pogba had suffered from injuries in the past, and the current season represented his “last chance” to return to his previous level, where he wrote his name among the promising talents in the world of football.

On Thursday, the player’s fears were confirmed by issuing a four-year sentence, which means that he will be allowed to return to playing at the age of 35, in March of 2028.

The French world champion star will turn 31 in two weeks.
