Talking about the match, Gambhir scored 17 runs in 31 balls in the powerplay, while the Capitals scored 60 runs without any loss on the board at the end of the first six overs. On being invited to bat first, India Capitals scored a huge score of 7 for 223 wickets in the first innings. Gambhir and fellow opener Kirk Edwards added 65 runs for the first wicket and laid the right foundation for the Capitals to put up a big score.
However, Gambhir was dismissed after playing a brilliant innings of 30 runs in 51 balls. The middle-order and lower-middle-order batsmen continued to move the scoreboard by playing fast innings, which took the Capitals to a big target. In response, Gujarat Giants could only score 7 runs at the loss of 211 wickets and lost the match by 12 runs.
