Vitaliy Zalizniak, a former football player of a number of Ukrainian clubs, died in the war with the Russian occupiers.

The tragic news was announced by the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) on its Facebook page.

50-year-old Zalizniak was a soldier, a gunner of the machine gun section of the fire support platoon of the fire support company.

While performing a combat mission near the village of Zaliznychne, he received a shrapnel wound incompatible with life.

During his football career, Vitaliy played as a defender for FC "Cosmos" (Pavlograd), FC "Metallurg" (Novomoskovsk), FC "Mariupol", FC "Torpedo" (Zaporizhzhia), FC "Stal" (Kamianske), FC "Elektrometallurg-NFP" (Nikopol).

It should be noted that this is not the first irreparable loss for the Ukrainian football community in recent times.

Earlier it was reported that Oleksandr Gonchar, a former football player of Vorskla, Metalist and Zorya, died in the war with the Russian invaders. Also, in the fight against the aggressor, the ex-player of Volyn and Ternopil Nyva Roman Hodovanyi was killed.
