Rahul Dravid likely to continue as coach

New Delhi: Top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have had in-depth discussions with Rahul Dravid on the possibilities of his role as head coach. Actually, according to the report, the BCCI wants to extend Rahul Dravid's tenure by two more years. At the moment, the BCCI wants head coach Dravid to guide the team during the South Africa tour. Under Dravid's coaching, India finished runners-up in both the World Test Championship (WTC Final) and the ODI World Cup, which India had performed brilliantly under Rahul Dravid's coaching for the last two years.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had a discussion with Dravid last week. Obviously, the specifics of the new contract are yet to be worked out. "The BCCI wants Dravid to go to South Africa with the Test team," a senior BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, it was reported in the media that Rahul Dravid is no longer interested in extending his term further, but looking at what is coming out now, it can be assumed that Dravid's term can be extended. At present, the Indian team is playing the T20 series with the Australian team.

VVS Laxman is in the coaching role during the T20 series. Actually, Laxman was considered to be India's next coach, but now the development that has come out, it seems that Dravid can continue in India's coaching position. On the other hand, Dravid has not yet said anything in this matter. The news was that Dravid could play the role of batting coach for RCB's team in the IPL.

Now it remains to be seen whether Dravid's tenure will increase or not. At the same time, Dravid's tenure will be extended for one year keeping in mind the next T20 World Cup or till the 2015 Champions Trophy.
