Oleksandr Honchar, a former football player of a number of Ukrainian clubs, died in the war with the Russian invaders.

The tragic news was announced by the Executive Committee of the Boryspil City Council on its Facebook page.

It is noted that Honchar died on August 16, 2023 in the Zaporozhye direction.

In March 2023, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The 43-year-old ex-football player was a soldier of a separate airborne brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Honchar was a graduate of Boryspil football and began his professional career in 1997 in Borysfen, where he became the main player of the team.

He also played for Prykarpattia, Vorskla, Metalist, Zorya, Nyva Ternopil and other clubs. He twice became the silver medalist of the First League of Ukraine: 2002/2003, 2005/2006.

After the end of his sports career, Alexander was engaged in private entrepreneurial activity. The deceased soldier is survived by his wife and two children.
