The Ukrainian beachsoccer team refused to participate in the final part of the 2024 World Cup due to the admission of the Belarusian team to the tournament.
This was announced by the Beach Soccer Association of Ukraine (APFU) on the official website.
It is noted that APFU and the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) appealed to FIFA and the world's governing beach soccer organization Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) with a request to suspend the Belarusian team from performances, but were refused.
Moreover, the national team of Belarus is even allowed to compete in tournaments under its national flag.
Thus, the "blue-yellows", following the order of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, which prohibits participation in international competitions where representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus are present, will not play at the 2024 World Cup in the UAE.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian beach soccer team reached the final tournament of the World Cup for the fifth time in history, but played at this stage of the tournament only three times (2005, 2011, 2013).
The last time Ukrainians qualified for the final part of the 2021 World Cup, but then our team refused to go to the tournament, which was held in Moscow. Therefore, the national team of Ukraine will boycott the second consecutive World Beach Soccer Championship.
The Ukrainian beach soccer team is forced to miss international competitions for the second time this year due to the participation of Belarus. Earlier, our team withdrew from the 2023 Euroleague.
Recall that at the end of July 2023, the conditions for the ban on participation in competitions where Russians and Belarusians are present were changed. The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine allowed Ukrainians to compete in tournaments where athletes from aggressor countries compete in neutral status.
