Chandigarh:

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by three boxers, saying it was not possible to conduct trials now as the Asian Games are starting this week. These boxers include World Championship silver medalist Amit Panghal. The 2023 Asian Games will begin in Hangzhou in September.

Panghal (51kg), national champion Rohit Mor (57kg) and Commonwealth Games silver-medallist Sagar Ahlawat (+92kg) had approached the high court against the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) after they were dropped from the Indian squad for the Asian Games in July.

"Virat and Sachin are special players because..." Manjrekar spoke of similar qualities between the two players.

Haryana-based sports activist Jaipal Dhankar is his fellow petitioner. "The court rejected the plea to conduct the trial as there is very little time left. The Asian Games are starting from September 23," he said, adding, "A detailed decision is expected in a day or two."
