Luhansk "Zorya" drew with Belgian "Gent" in the match of the 1st round of the group stage of the Conference League - 1:1.

Due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian occupiers, the nominally home meeting for Luhansk took place in the Polish city of Lublin at the Arena Lublin.

The first half of the game passed without goals. In the middle of the second half of the match, the leader of the Belgian championship managed to take the lead - in the 67th minute, Andrew Hulsager, who had previously come on as a substitute, crossed from the right edge of the penalty area, and Hugo Kuipers sent the ball into the net.

Valeriy Kryventsov's team managed to equalise very quickly – on 70 minutes, Eduardo Guerrero fired a low shot into the far corner in midfield of the Buffaloes' penalty area.

In the parallel match of the opening round of Group B, the Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv beat the Icelandic Breidablik on its own field with a score of 3:2.

In the second round of the group round of the Conference League on October 5, Zorya will play against Breidablik in Iceland, and Gent will host Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The winners of the groups will advance to the 1/8 finals of the Conference League. The runners-up in the play-offs will play against eight clubs that will take third place in the group stage of the Europa League.
