Mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight belt Filip Hrgovic commented on a possible fight with WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
The Croatian boxer said that he should be appointed the next opponent of the Ukrainian, since he has long deserved a chance to compete for the title of world champion.
"I can't relax on vacation because I know I'm next in line. I think about it every day. Yes, I should be the next to get my chance. Fury is scheduled to fight against Ngannou. He's not available, so Usyk has to fight the mandatory challenger, and I'm next in line. I deserved this chance a long time ago, I've been waiting for a long time, so I'm ready to fight.
I've been waiting for two years now. I had problems with scheduling a fight for the status of a mandatory challenger: I had been waiting for it for a year and a half. And now I'm waiting for more than a swarm again. I've become a mandatory challenger, but I'm still waiting. There is no unification fight, because Fury has a fight planned. Like I said, they have to follow the rules, and in the next fight, Usyk has to fight me," Hrgovic said in an interview with Boxing Social.
Earlier, the Croat's promoter Eddie Hearn named a possible date for the fight between his client and Usyk. Hrgovic also named the condition under which he will allow the Ukrainian to fight with Fury.
Recall that on the night of August 27, Usyk knocked out Briton Daniel Dubois in the ninth round at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland and defended the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF world heavyweight titles.
The 36-year-old Ukrainian has 21 wins (14 by knockout) in 21 fights. He spent five of them in the heavyweight division. Before that, Alexander became the absolute world champion in cruiserweight (weight category up to 90.7 kg), winning all four most prestigious belts there.
The 31-year-old Hrgovic has 16 wins (13 by knockout) in 16 fights. In his last fight, the Croatian knocked out Australian Demsey McKean in August this year and retained his status as a mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight title.
