The head coach of the England national team, Gareth Southgate, commented on the draw result of the match of the 5th round of selection for Euro-2024 against the team of Ukraine.

The helmsman of the "Three Lions" admitted that his wards had a hard time in the duel with the "blue-yellows", who actively put pressure on the opponent. According to him, the English scored an important point from a tournament point point of view.

"It was a very difficult game for us. We controlled the ball 70% of the time, but we didn't play well enough in the final third of the field. We got an important point in the tournament circumstances in which the fight takes place.

It was very difficult for us, especially because of the pressure that Ukrainians exerted in midfield. We felt the pressure of the stands and gained good experience of operating in such conditions, – the official website of the UAF quotes Southgate as saying.

The national team of Ukraine drew against England - 1:1. Southgate's team responded to Zinchenko's goal with an accurate shot by Kyle Walker.

For the English national team, this is the first loss of points in the current selection for the continental championship. Prior to that, the Three Lions won four matches in a row.

After the matches of the fifth round, the England national team (13 points) is leading in Group C. Ukraine is in second place (7 points). This is followed by Italy (4), North Macedonia (4) and Malta (0).

As part of the 6th round of Euro-2024 selection, the Italians will host Ukraine on September 12, and North Macedonia will play Malta away.
