The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina failed to reach the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, Canada.
In the opening round of the competition, Svitolina (No. 26 WTA) lost to American Danielle Collins (No. 48 WTA).
The match lasted one hour and 12 minutes and ended with a score of 6:2, 6:2 in favor of the representative of the United States.
During the time spent on the court, Elina served three times, committed three double faults and did not realize either of the two break points.
Note that this was the second face-to-face meeting in history between Svitolina and Collins. For the first time, tennis players played each other in early 2020 at the WTA tournament in Brisbane – then the American also won two sets.
In the second round of the tournament in Montreal, Collins' opponent will be Maria Sakkari from Greece (No. 9 WTA).
Earlier in the first round of the tournament in Montreal, another Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina dropped out, losing to American Sloane Stevens with a score of 4:6, 6:7.
Later, two more Ukrainian tennis players will hold their matches of the first round of these competitions – Marta Kostyuk and Lesia Tsurenko. Kostyuk's opponent will be Chinese Zheng Qinwen, and Tsurenko will meet with Croatian Petra Martić.
