Shubman Gill

Gary Kirsten on Shubman Gill: Shubman Gill scored 2023 runs in 2023 matches in IPL 17 (IPL 890) and achieved the Orange Cap, including three explosive centuries, after which many people have started seeing the 23-year-old as the future of Indian cricket due to his various shots. Gill, who made his international debut in 2020, has now scored centuries in all three formats of the game, leading fans to compare him with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

However, former India coach Gary Kirsten praised Gill but also called the comparison as a young batsman at an early stage of his career "unfair".

Former India coach Gary Kirsten

"He is a young player with incredible skills and the determination to become one of the best players in the world. It would be unfair to compare him to Sachin and Virat so early in his journey," Kirsten told Cricbuzz. I believe he has the game to play successfully for India in all three formats. You don't see that often, especially when T20 cricket is evolving and progressing so fast.

After a successful stint in IPL 2023, Gill will now play for Team India in the World Test Championship Final (Ind vs AUS WTC Final) against Australia at The Oval from June 7. Talking about Gill's form in the WTC, Gary showed faith in him and said he was confident about his performance.

"Shubman has all the credentials to be a great player for India in all formats. Like any player, he will face challenges and obstacles. How he handles them and moves forward will ultimately determine his long-term success. I would encourage them to learn and connect with people who can give them reliable advice," Kirsten said.
