(CNN) -- Barcelona overcame a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg 3-2 in a dramatic women's Champions League final and banished last year's disappointment.

The only blemish on Barcelona's record of wins in recent seasons was last year's Champions League final, as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to Lyon, even though they prowled through records and then became the first football team to win 50 consecutive league games.

Saturday's final against Wolfsburg in Eindhoven, Netherlands, was a chance for redemption, but with a 2-0 down at half-time, it looked like Barcelona would have to wait at least another year to secure a second Champions League trophy.

Wolfsburg went ahead in the three minutes when Ewa Pajor stole the ball from Barcelona defender Lucy Bronze and found the back of the net with a powerful shot for her ninth goal in this Champions League, the biggest tally in this season's tournament.

Barcelona had chances: Irene Paredes' header floated inches from the goal post and Caroline Graham Hansen couldn't find the back of the net when she held on to a Leon cross, but it was Wolfsburg who struck next and doubled their lead.

Legendary forward Alexandra Popp timed her run to perfection when she headed a pass from Pajor into the box to equal a record-breaking fourth goal in the Women's Champions League finals.

Paralluelo almost scored for Barcelona just before half-time, but Merle Frohms struck with courage and brilliance.

However, it was a glimpse of Barcelona's ruthless brilliance when they equalised with two goals from Patri Guijarro in quick succession just five minutes after half-time to the delight of Barcelona supporters in the crowd.

"We made it difficult in the first half even though we created a lot of chances," Bronze told Dazn afterwards.

"We knew we had enough quality to come back to any game. I don't think we've ever worried about scoring three goals, which is crazy, but that's the talent within this team."

The match continued at its frenetic pace but it was Barcelona who emerged victorious when Fridolina Rolfö scored the winning goal in the 70th minute after Wolfsburg's defence made a series of errors while trying to clear the ball.

The victory sealed Barcelona's status as the dominant team in European women's club football, as it claimed its second Champions League title in three years, joining an elite group of just six other teams to have won the trophy more than once.
