Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk reached the second round of doubles at Roland Garros 2023.

At the start of the main draw, the 20-year-old Kyiv resident in a duet with Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse defeated the Russian tandem Anna Blinkova / Varvara Gracheva, who played in a neutral status due to the full-scale military invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

The tense match lasted almost 2 hours and ended in the triumph of the Ukrainian and her partner with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:2.

During the time spent on the court, the Ukrainian and Romanian never served out, made 8 double errors and realized 4/8 break points.

Kostyuk and Ruse's opponents in the next round will be Kirsten Flipkens and Shelby Rodgers (Belgium / USA).

Also, the first round of doubles Roland Garros was overcome by Ukrainian Liudmyla Kichenok with Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, who received the fourth seed in the tournament.

In their opening match, the Ukrainian-Latvian duo beat Frenchwomen Elsa Jacquemeau and Leolia Jeanjean – 3:6, 1:6.

The next rivals of Kichenok and Ostapenko will be other hostesses of the competition, Frenchwomen Alize Cornet and Dianne Parry.
