(CNN) -- Former Paris Saint Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino is Chelsea's new manager on a two-year contract with an option for a further year from the club, the Premier League side announced in a statement on Monday.
"Mauricio's experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward," Chelsea said.
"He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest level, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethics, tactical approach and commitment to development make him an exceptional candidate," added the owners of the Stamford Bridge club.
The Argentine will begin his duties on July 1, as Chelsea finished this season in twelfth position.
The Blues' previous manager, Graham Potter, was sacked in April after just six months in charge.
