Sunil Gavaskar on Rohit and Dhoni

Sunil Gavaskar about Rohit Sharma Captaincy vs MS Dhoni: Rohit Sharma is a captain who has led Mumbai Indians to 5 titles in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Still, some feel that he did not get the kind of credit he deserves for his leadership. MI led by uncapped pacer Akash Madhwal won a crucial win over Lucknow Super Giants (MI vs LSG Eliminator) in the Eliminator, Rohit received a lot of praise from the cricket world for giving the young pacer an opportunity to perform at this level. Like get credit.

"Of course, he has been underestimated," Gavaskar told India Today, considering Rohit Sharma's captaincy. "This man has won five titles for Mumbai Indians. Let me give you an example. Madhwal (MI bowler Akash Madhwal) bowled over the wicket to Ayush Badoni. After this, he went round the wicket to left-handed batsman Nicholas Pooran. Because if they regain their rhythm while bowling over the wicket, they will stick to the over wicket despite being a left-handed player. They will try to take the ball away from the left-handed batsman.

This year, the cricket world is praising Dhoni for bringing out another talent in the form of Tushar Desh Pandey. He has also been awarded for the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube this year. So, Gavaskar feels that if it was Dhoni under whose leadership Madhwal had done such a performance, the world would have been talking about 41 years of leadership in great detail, but that is not the case with Rohit.

Batting legend Gavaskar further said-

"If it was CSK and Dhoni was the captain, everyone would say 'Dhoni conspired to get Nicholas Pooran out.' To a large extent this happens. There is a little bit of publicity, things work out sometimes."

"Even in the captaincy position, remember, Nehal Wadhera was used as an influential player to bat first. Teams usually don't use batsmen as impact players. When they are batting first, Rohit used Nehwal when MI was batting first against LSG. So please give him credit for that too."
