Chennai had a chance to win this match and secure a place in the playoffs but now they will have to wait. There was excitement in the audience once again to see Dhoni (Dhoni batting in Chepauk Stadium) at the Chepauk Stadium, but Mahi came on the field in the last over when two balls were left. Dhoni failed to take advantage of the free hit and could only score two unbeaten runs in three balls.

After the end of the match, Mahi, ignoring the knee injury during the game, toured the field with fellow players of the whole field, hit t-shirts, yellow balls with a racket among the fans and brought them to the audience gallery and accepted their greetings.

"When we bowled the first ball in the second innings, we knew we should have scored close to 180 runs," Dhoni said after the match. "The dew made a big difference during our bowling. We really can't blame any of our bowlers. Just the conditions had a big impact on the game."

Dhoni (MS Dhoni among crowd at Chepauk Stadium) on this occasion praised Shivam Dubey for scoring an unbeaten 34 off 48 balls and Deepak Chahar, who took three wickets. Deepak Chahar specializes in swinging the ball. He knows where to bowl, where the fielder is and he bowls accordingly.
