Ukrainian tennis player
Marta Kostyuk
reached the semifinals of the doubles of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid.
In the 1/4 finals, the Ukrainian together with Yelena-Gabriela Ruse from Romania defeated the tandem of Monica Niculescu / Makoto Ninomiya (Romania / Japan).
Kostyuk and her partner lost the first set 2:6, but won the second set with a similar score.
The fate of the ticket to the 1/2 finals was determined by a tie-break, where Marta and Yelena-Gabriela won with a score of 10:5.
Kostyuk and Ruse will compete with the leaders of the seeding - Americans Corey Gauff and Jessica Pegula - for a place in the finals.
Note that for the first time in her career, Marta was able to make it to the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in doubles.
Prior to that, in the doubles competitions of this series, the Ukrainians did not manage to go beyond the 1/8 finals.
