Salim Durani: The 1960s legendary Indian cricketer Salim Durrani, who looked like a film hero, had a pleasant personality and was known for hitting sixes on the demand of fans, passed away on Sunday.

He was 88 years old.

Sources close to his family confirmed the news of his demise.

Salim Durrani was living with his younger brother Jehangir Durrani in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

He had an operation in January this year after fracturing his thigh bone.

Born in Kabul, Durrani was not only known for his excellent batting, but he was also a left-arm spin bowler.

He played 29 test matches.

Durrani played a key role in India's 2–0 victory against England in the five-match Test series in 1961–62.

Salim Durrani's career


Durrani played a total of 29 Test matches for India and during this time scored 1202 runs which included 1 century and 7 half-centuries, besides taking 75 wickets.

He made his debut in Mumbai Test against Australia in the year 1960.

1964 Amazing in Test against West Indies


Durrani played such an innings with his bat during the fourth Test match on West Indies tour of 1964, which is discussed even today.

In fact, in the Test match played in Part of Spain, West Indies batted first and scored 444 runs in the first innings, after which the Indian team scored only 197 runs in their first innings, in which case the Indian team got the follow-on.

From here, a shameful defeat was visible in front of the Indian team.

In the Indian second innings, Durrani did wonders and scored 104 runs and also due to the innings of Polly Umrigar (172), the Indian team was able to score 422 runs.

After retiring from Test cricket in 1973, Durrani acted in a film named 'Charitra' in which his heroine was Parveen Babi.
