The Danish Fencing Federation decided to cancel the international tournament in Copenhagen due to the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE)

to admit

Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions.

This was announced by the head of the organization Jan Sylvest Jensen.

"We came to the conclusion that, unfortunately, we cannot host these competitions. We cannot do it under the current conditions, when Russian and Belarusian athletes have been allowed to participate," Jensen is quoted as saying by BT.

He also noted that Denmark is prepared for the potential consequences of refusing to host the tournament, including the risk of losing the right to host the competition on a permanent basis.

"For fencers, this means that in order to qualify for the Olympics, they will have to travel more to other tournaments, and this will involve higher costs. For Denmark, this will mean the risk of losing further tournaments. We risk no longer hosting international competitions in Denmark at an adult level," said Jensen.

In early March, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided to return Russians and Belarusians to international competitions, despite the full-scale war that the Russian Federation, with the support of Belarus, continues to wage in Ukraine.

This caused the indignation of the world community.

Due to the cancellation of the "ban" of athletes from the aggressor countries, Germany

refused

to host the Women's Rapier Fencing World Cup, which was scheduled for early May 2023.

Earlier it was reported that representatives of the FIE banned

the Fencing World Cup in Nanjing, China

national team of Ukraine to stage an action against the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus.

It will be recalled that more than 300 fencers from different countries of the world

 called on

the FIE to reconsider the decision to return athletes from Russia and Belarus to the competition.
