The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC),

Thomas Bach,

commented on the issue of the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions, including their possible admission to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The official supported the idea of the participation of athletes from the aggressor countries in a neutral status, citing examples from several sports where athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus are now allowed to compete.

"The participation of athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports in international competitions works. We see it almost every day in a number of sports, especially in tennis, but also in cycling, in some table tennis competitions. We see it in hockey, handball, we see it in soccer and other leagues in the US as well as Europe, and we're seeing it on other continents as well.

There were no safety incidents at any of these competitions.

The governments on the territory of which the competitions take place issue visas to Russian and Belarusian athletes with very rare exceptions, and in other countries they even issue work permits to these players and athletes," - Baha Reuters cites.

Bach also cynically stated again that politics cannot be part of sports competitions, and athletes should not be punished for their passports.

"We won't be able to come up with a solution that will satisfy everyone. We may have to live with that," Bach said.

The decision regarding the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the 2024 Olympics must be made at the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee, which will last from March 28 to 30 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
