Star Ukrainian athletes Yaroslava Maguchih, Oleg Vernyaev and Mykhailo Romanchuk commented on a possible boycott of

the 2024 Olympic Games

if Russians and Belarusians are admitted to them.

All three are sure that our country's boycott of the Olympics will be a wrong decision.

They are convinced that Ukrainians should go to the Games in Paris in order to fight on the sports front and win as many medals as possible.

"Actually, I think it is a very weak position to boycott the Olympics. We should do everything so that this does not happen. But not to perform at the Olympics... This is the biggest competition that is watched by everyone who has not watched it before. If there are no Ukrainian athletes, it will be a failure, honestly.

I really hope we can make our case to the IOC and everyone else.

What is happening now in our country is beyond my imagination.

Many Russian athletes support this regime, many are afraid.

But I don't know what that would look like - to have them sign some piece of paper saying they don't support the war.

If we are talking about athletics, then they perform with the logo of the CSKA club - this is support for the army, I believe, support for genocide," said the athlete, bronze medalist of the 2020 Olympics in high jump Yaroslav Maguchih in an interview with Suspilne Sport.

"We need to hold a vote in "Diya" and do as people say. To be honest, a lot of military people ask when the competition will be. So I think they are watching and rooting for us. If the guys are fighting, it doesn't mean that we have to sit at home and give all the medals to the Russians.

I think we should also go out and fight on our sporting front and win more medals.

If we don't go, we will "give back" and show that they "shoeed" us here as well," said the champion and silver medalist of Rio-2016 in gymnastics Oleg Vernyaev in a comment on the VDOMA YouTube channel.

Mykhailo Romanchuk, the winner of the "silver" and "bronze" medals at Tokyo 2020 in swimming, also spoke out against Ukraine's boycott of the Olympics in Paris.

"As we see in the practice of some federations, money decides a lot. I believe that our athletes should fight. This should be an additional motivation to bite and win. Athletes can leave the country, so we can tell Europe and the world what is happening in Ukraine.

I believe that we must compete and prove on the international stage that we are strong and will fight to the end, despite the conditions of training and life.

We are a strong nation," Romanchuk said in a comment on VDOMA's YouTube channel.

It was reported earlier.
