Lesya Tsurenko

 became a finalist of the WTA 250 tournament in Hua Hin (Thailand).

In the semifinals, the 33-year-old Ukrainian (No. 136 WTA) sensationally defeated the first seed of the competition, Bianka Andreescu from Canada (No. 42 WTA).

The match lasted an hour and 35 minutes.

Tsurenko won the first set with a score of 5:7 and led 0:4 in the second game, after which Andreescu, who had problems with her shoulder during the match, decided to withdraw from the game.

Thus, Lesya took revenge on Andreyescu, who knocked out another Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk from the tournament in the quarterfinals – 6:0, 7:6.

In the final match, Tsurenko will meet Lin Zhu (No. 54 WTA) from China.

The decisive match will take place on Sunday, February 5.

Tsurenko will play in the finals of WTA singles tournaments for the sixth time in her career and for the first time since 2019, when she lost to the Czech Karolina Pliskova in the competition in Brisbane, Australia.

In total, Lesya has four WTA series titles to her credit.

It will be recalled that Tsurenko also defeated the Belgian Isalin Bonaventure, the

Russian Anna Kalinska

and the German Tetiana Maria on the way to the final in Hua Hin.
