The European Olympic Committees (EOC) announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes will not be able to participate in
the 2023 European Games
, which will be held in Krakow, Poland.
Despite the fact that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is already
ready
to return athletes from Russia and Belarus to the international arena, the EOC stands in solidarity with Ukraine and does not want to see athletes from aggressor countries at their competitions.
"Sport is fairest when all athletes have the opportunity to compete. The EOC Athletes Commission will continue to discuss how this should happen.
For the avoidance of doubt, any possible decisions regarding the potential participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus will not apply to the 2023 European Games in Krakow.
As stated in November 2022, their participation is not possible under the current conditions," the EOC said in a statement.
III European Games will be held from June 21 to July 2.
These competitions will also be part of the selection for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
We will remind you that the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine
will consider the issue of a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
.
The reason was the likely return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the international arena
until the end of the war that the Russian Federation is waging against Ukraine.
The NOC will discuss the issue of boycotting the Olympics on February 3 during an extraordinary general assembly.
