The national team of Ukraine won the first medal of  the

2023

European Youth Olympic Winter Festival .

Oleksandra Merkushina won the gold award in the biathlon sprint race.

Merkushyna worked impeccably on prone shooting and earned one round of penalty on the rack.

However, this did not prevent our compatriot from winning the race with a solid margin of 44 seconds.

"Silver" in the sprint was won by the Frenchwoman Lola Bougot, and the "bronze" was taken by the Czech Ilona Plekhachova.

Two more Ukrainians, Tetyana Tarasyuk and Valeriya Sheigas, did not make a single mistake on both firing lines and eventually finished in 18th and 23rd places.

Slovenian Pavel Troyer triumphed in the men's sprint at the EUOF-2023.

Pole Jakub Potoniec took second place, and Frenchman Judikael Perrilla Bottone completed the top three.

The best result among Ukrainians in the men's sprint was shown by Ivan Steblyna, who finished 21st.

The rest of the Ukrainians did not make it to the top 40: Mykola Hrushchak was 44th, and Andriy Lysenko took the 58th place.
