Sunil Gavaskar Shubman Gill

India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI:

The great Sunil Gavaskar is a fan of young opener Shubman Gill's batting and it is no longer hidden from any cricket lover.

Gavaskar (Sunil Gavaskar) praised Gill fiercely when the opener scored a double century (Shubman Gill Double Hundered) in the first ODI of the series against New Zealand in Hyderabad and became the youngest cricketer to do so.

India put up another impressive performance on Saturday.

Though Gill was not the hero of the match, he certainly played his part.

Fast bowlers Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya played the role of heroes to decide the 8-wicket victory in the second ODI.

In which Rohit Sharma scored a half-century and Shubman Gill finished the match by scoring an unbeaten 40 runs.

With this victory, India also took a 2-0 lead in the three-match series (India vs New Zealand).

This was also the fifth consecutive ODI win of Team India.

After India's victory in the first international match held in Raipur, Gavaskar (Sunil Gavaskar on Shubman Gill) came up with a new name for Shubman Gill.

Gavaskar called the 23-year-old right-handed batsman "Smoothman Gill" for his ease.

In a post-match (IND vs 2nd ODI) interview with Shubman Gill on Star Sports, the former India captain said, "I have given you a new name, Smoothman Gill. I hope you don't mind."

Gill was smiling after hearing such words from the great cricketer.

The young batsman said a little shyly, "I don't mind at all, sir."

Interestingly, Gavaskar (Sunil Gavaskar on Shubman Gill) used the same nickname twice while commentating during India's innings.

After his record knock of 208, Gill hit six fours on Saturday to help India chase down New Zealand's modest target of 109 in just 20.1 overs.
