The "King of Football" died on December 29 at the age of 82 as a result of a long battle with cancer.

Football club "Santos", to which Pele devoted almost 20 years of his playing career, announced the details of the organization of the farewell to the legend and the burial ceremony.

On January 2, the coffin with Pele's body will be taken from the hospital to the "Vila Belmiro" stadium, the home arena of "Santos", where the "king of football" played for the first time at a professional level.

During the day, everyone will have the opportunity to say goodbye to Pele - the coffin with his body will be in the center of the stadium field.

On January 3, the body of the legendary football player will be carried through the streets of Sao Paulo and taken to the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica cemetery, which is located 850 meters from the Santos stadium.

The burial ceremony will be closed, only for Pele's family, fans will not be allowed to attend.

In September 2021, Pele underwent surgery to remove a tumor in the right part of the colon.

Unfortunately, the cancer progressed and caused kidney and heart problems.

The 82-year-old Brazilian underwent a course of treatment, but chemotherapy did not help.

Pele is the only three-time world champion in football (1958, 1962, 1970).

At the club level, he played for the Brazilian "Santos" and the American "New York Cosmos".

During his professional career, Pele scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 matches, including 1,091 goals in 1,116 games for Santos and 77 in 92 matches for the national team.

Pele was recognized as the best football player of the 20th century by FIFA and the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
