The Russian Football Union (RFS) has not made a decision on leaving

UEFA

and moving to the Asian Football Confederation.

This is reported by the Russian mass media (mass propaganda - note).

The occupying power was going to withdraw from UEFA and thereby avoid elimination from international tournaments and take part in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

However, such a step is unlikely to help the occupiers.

Even in the event of a transition to the Asian Confederation, FIFA cannot promise the Russian national team admission to the World Cup while the country is waging a war of aggression against Ukraine.

"One of the reasons why we decided not to go to Asia is the lack of a guarantee that we will be included in the selection? Yes, no one guarantees us that. Only FIFA can give us such a guarantee. We could go, but not get into the selection. Although Asia, like earlier, is ready to receive us," said the President of the Russian Federation Dyukov.

Exclusion of Russia from international football

Even in the first days of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, UEFA and FIFA

suspended

the clubs and national teams of the Russian Federation from participating in tournaments under their auspices.

In particular, Russian clubs were kicked out of the European Cups, and the Russian national team was

excluded from the playoffs for the 2022 World Cup

.

Subsequently, UEFA

extended the ban on clubs and national teams of

the Russian Federation.

banning Russians from participating in competitions in the 2022/23 season as well.

At the same time, we note that Russia has not yet been expelled from UEFA and FIFA.
