The passing year turned out to be rich in various sports events.

In 2022, in particular, the Winter Olympic Games took place, the continental basketball championship was moved and the football World Cup in Qatar, which was held in winter for the first time in history.

Olympic Games-2022

The 2022 Olympic Games

took place in Beijing from February 4 to 20 

.

At the XXIV Winter Olympics, competitions were held in 15 disciplines in seven sports.

A total of 109 sets of medals were drawn.

The winner of the overall team medal count of the 2022 Olympics was the Norwegian national team, which won 37 medals. 

Germany with 27 medals, including 12 gold, took second place in the team standings at the results of the 2020 Olympics.

The third place went to the hosts of the Olympic Games — athletes from China won 15 medals.

Norwegian biathlete Johannes Bø became the most decorated athlete of the 2022 Olympics, with five medals to his credit - four gold and one bronze.

Among women, the best biathlete from Norway was Marte Olsby-Roiseland, who, like her compatriot Bø, took home five awards from Beijing, but won a little less gold - she has three first places and two third places.

Sanctions against Russia and Belarus

On February 24, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Because of this, the athletes of the aggressor countries suffered, because sport is not outside of politics.

In the first days of the invasion, the IOC and other international sports organizations began imposing sanctions against Russia.

The restrictions did not only apply to holding competitions on the territory of the country, athletes were also banned.

Throughout 2022, the issue of international sanctions against the Russian Federation and Belarus was repeatedly raised.

And although the latest decision of the IOC made it clear that they

are looking for options for the athletes of these countries

, with some exceptions, Russia and its athletes remain outside major sports at the international level.

Paralympic Games-2022

The 2022 Paralympics became the first major tournament in which international sports sanctions against Russia and Belarus began to take effect - paraathletes from these countries were not allowed even under a neutral flag, and this decision was made literally before the start of the tournament.

The first place in the medal count was taken by China, which won 61 medals (18-20-23).

The second place was sensationally won by the Ukrainian national team.

Our paraathletes finished the competition in the capital of the Celestial Empire with 29 medals: 11 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze. For the Ukrainian national team, this is the best result in the history of the Winter Paralympic Games.

Never before have our paraathletes finished the competition in the top 2 of the medal standings.

Before that, the record was third place at the 2006 Games.

Then the Ukrainians finished three times in a row in the top 5 of the medal standings.

Canada closed the top 3 in the medal standings - 25 medals (8-6-11).

EuroBasket-2022

The European Basketball Championship was supposed to take place from September 2 to 29, 2021, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed a year earlier.

In the EuroBasket final, which took place in Berlin, Germany, the Spanish national team defeated the French national team.

The Spaniards became European champions for the fourth time in history.

They won all four titles with Sergio Scariolo as head coach.

Before that, Spain won EuroBasket in 2009, 2011 and 2015.

Ukraine also participated in the tournament, leaving the group and losing to the Polish team in the round of 16.

World Cup-2022 in football

The first World Cup in the history of football, which lasted in winter, ended in Qatar with the victory of the national team of Argentina.

At the start of the 2022 World Cup, the Argentines sensationally lost to Saudi Arabia (1:2), after which they defeated Mexico (2:0) and Poland (0:2).

This allowed Lionel Scaloni's wards to enter the playoffs from first place.

In the round of 16, the Albiceleste 

beat

 Australia (2:1).

In the quarter-finals, Leo Messi and company 

knocked out

 the Netherlands national team - the main time of the match ended with the score 2:2, and the Argentines triumphed in the penalty shootout.

In the semifinals, "Albiceleste" 

defeated the

 national team of Croatia (3:0). 

In the decisive match, the Argentinians

defeated

the reigning champions at that time, France (3:3 in regular and extra time, 4:2 in the penalty shootout).
